Week 1: Introduction to Sound Arts

I have always been very interested in composition, production and listening; therefore I was quite set on studying a subject like music production at University. This changed when I discovered Sound Arts. Whilst reading into the course, and undertaking general research of the subject, I realised that this area of sound interested me much more than more ‘conventional’ areas like production and composition, etc.

During my research, I came across Stefanie Egedy; a composer investigating sound through conceptual music, commissioned pieces and dance music. Her most recent work involves investigating possibilities with low frequency sound, bodies and subwoofers. Being one of the first ‘sound artists’ I have researched by myself, her work is very interesting to me and I would love to also explore low frequency sound and it’s effect on the human body, combining this with conceptual music and installation works.
