In this session, we began a new module and learnt the basics surrounding collaboration, collective curation, and in the second half, the use of graphic scores.
Whilst discussing collective curation, we had to decide how to release our compilation. We landed on the conclusion of releasing our work digitally since it would be cheaper and more accessible for people to find. Following this, we assigned roles for jobs such as: curating the order of the comp, creating the cover art and managing a social media account/uploading the release.
During the second half of this lesson, we learnt about graphic notation. My favourite methods of graphic notation are instructions (I feel that these can be very vague and whilst having a direction, can be really open to interpretation) and lines and shading. I really like the idea that a graphic score could also reflect as an art piece.
I thought Meredith Monk’s graphic scores were very interesting. The combination of simplicity and absurdity written on a musical staff is very distinctive.
