This week in class, we learnt about analog synthesis, the importance in the nuances of analog synthesis and techniques such patching between different modules/instruments.
In my opinion, although I find analog synthesis very interesting and I understand why it is preferred by some people, I prefer the quicker flow of working in a programme like serum or vital, despite the fact it may lose some character when compared to analog synths and their individual quirks.
Journal:
This week, I wanted to focus on textures in my sound piece. I felt as though the bass was mostly there texturally after adding movement through the use of LFO’s and automation.
Therefore, I moved on to some melodic content. I created a very synthetic sounding violin patch in Ableton’s Tension. I then high passed it at around 700Hz, and used the erosion plugin to add some noise to the sound; helping it to blend with the bass more. I added an autopan at end, just to make it not feel so still.
