In this session, we discussed the nuances of what it means to be a ‘sound artist’ and whether this is a term that we as individuals would want to be associated with.

I am not close to coming to a conclusion on this topic yet, however I do have some opinions about the term, and about labelling in general.

In my opinion, ‘sound artist’ has a very performative implication. Whilst this isn’t a bad thing, many ‘sound artist’s’ intentions are not to create art and be performers necessarily, but to create an archive for example. I am not too sure what I am trying to say, I am still trying to learn the nuances of sound art as a practice; but at the moment I don’t feel as though I identify as a ‘sound artist’.
